Dillian Whyte has some task ahead of him if he plans to continue boxing as Moses Itauma has left his career in tatters.

Dillian ‘The Bodysnatcher’ Whyte failed to live up to his nickname last night as the only thing that was snatched was his chances of ever fighting for a world title.

The 37-year-old now has a tough choice in front of him, with Joseph Parker suggesting Whyte will consider retirement after the one-round loss.

Much was made in the build-up of Whyte’s trainer, Buddy McGirt, having never seen Itauma fight before, allowing his charge to enter the ring with him, but it seems now McGirt has admitted to yet another oversight that worked against his man on the night.

Following the devastating defeat, McGirt considered where the team fell short in their preparation for the fight, stating,

“To be honest, he looked good in camp, you know, but the guys we had don’t punch like this kid, you know what I mean, the guys that we were sparring? So he didn’t really get hit with any good, solid shots, you know to see his reaction.”

McGirt elaborated, “If he would have got hit with a good shot in camp and wobbled a little bit, then I would’ve [been] like, you know, ‘I think we need to think twice about this fight.’”

It seems that failing to bring in hard-punching sparring partners was the difference between Whyte taking the fight and choosing another option, and the oversight in camp could mean the end of his career.

McGirt refused to comment on rumors that Whyte was injured going into the Itauma fight, and assured viewers that he is okay and resting with his family.

Moses Itauma could face one fierce heavyweight next

Though Itauma called out Parker next, and stated he would like to face Agit Kabayel and Oleksandr Usyk, too.

Before that, though, the young Brit’s team suggested Itauma needs rounds and that Jermaine Franklin could be a likely next opponent.

Itauma could also face Martin Bakole or Filip Hrgovic. ‘El Animal’ Hrgovic defeated David Adeleye on his undercard last night, and could give Itauma the rounds he so desperately needs.

Hrgovic stood up to shots from Zhilei Zhang, Joe Joyce, and Daniel Dubois, and will prove to be another stepping stone to a world title that Itauma could face next.
