Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker is set to join Real Oviedo on a free transfer.

The final details of the move have been agreed, and the Belgian is now expected to complete the switch.

Villa have been trying to move Dendoncker out of Unai Emery’s squad for some time, and are finally going to do so – even though they will not receive a fee.

Had Villa not agreed to a free transfer, the only other way to stop paying Dendoncker’s weekly wages would have been a mutual termination of his contract.

Removing the midfielder’s salary from the books will still be beneficial for Villa, although the club remains restricted in the transfer market with only two weeks left in the window.

Meanwhile, Jacob Ramsey’s £39 million move to Newcastle United was completed on Sunday, with a further £5 million in potential add-ons included in the deal.

In addition, Leon Bailey is edging closer to a season-long loan move to AS Roma, with the Italian side expected to secure an option to buy the winger.
