A man has been tased then arrested in Edinburgh near the Union Canal.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to reports of a disturbance at around 1.45pm on Sunday, August 17 and a 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident.

Photos from the scene show multiple police vehicles. In one image, seven cops can be seen surrounding a man.

A taser was discharged during the incident and as per standard procedure the incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: “Around 1.45pm on Sunday, 17 August, 2025, we received a report of a disturbance near to Union Canal in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh.

“A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

“A taser was discharged during this incident. As is part of standard procedure, the circumstances of the incident will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.”
