Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired world English rights to My Cursed Vagina, a memoir by Lally Katz, via Wendy Howell and Lucy White from Creative Representation.

The memoir follows Katz as she explores ‘the many forms a supposed hex on her takes as she travels the world looking for love, compulsively writing down everything as she goes’.

‘These are hilarious and heartbreaking stories of disastrous dates, hopeful sex, straight-talking friendships, a surprise marriage, the adventure of motherhood and the strange gifts of illness,’ said the publisher. ‘Importantly, this is a story about how sometimes the unexpected leads us to the place we should land.’

Katz is an Australian/American playwright and screenwriter. Her plays include Neighbourhood Watch, Atlantis, The Eisteddfod, and Stories I Want to Tell You in Person.

Publisher Sally Heath said, ‘This is a wonderful wild ride from a grand storyteller who travels through life leaving no intimacy, faux pas or joy unexamined to share on the page. The result is a deep dive into a life fully lived that is both uniquely Lally’s and instantly relatable.’

Katz said, ‘I have butterflies in my stomach – both from the excitement and from some of the things I’ve revealed! I loved living it and loved writing it, and now I’m thrilled for it to go out into the world and be read.’

A&U plans to publish My Cursed Vagina in February 2026.
