Netflix has officially set an October 16th launch for the third season of its acclaimed Keri Russell-led political drama series “The Diplomat”.

Along with setting a date, the streamer has released a new one-minute teaser with a heavy focus being the rise of Allison Janney’s Grace Penn character to that of U.S. Vice President.

The new teaser also once again teases the arrival of Janney’s “The West Wing” cohort Bradley Whitford, who will play First Husband Todd Penn in the series.

The events of The Diplomat’s second season had a shocking conclusion, resulting in one of the best cliffhangers on TV in recent years. The new season will now deal with the fallout of that as the showdown between Kate, Grace, Todd, and Kate’s husband, Hal (Rufus Sewell), comes into play.

In the new season, Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, and an unnerving bond with Todd Penn.

The series also stars David Gyasi as British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission Stuart Hayford, and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge.

Created by showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn, the third season will premiere this Fall, while a fourth season renewal order has already been handed out and is expected to head into production later this year.
