Following sold-out runs in New York and San Francisco, Doomers arrives in London this autumn for a limited engagement at the Rose Lipman Building from 18 September to 3 October.

Written by cult playwright Matthew Gasda, Doomers is a razor-sharp dark comedy inspired by the real-life drama surrounding OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s brief ousting. The play draws on interviews with AI researchers, ethicists, and Silicon Valley insiders to explore the emotional and ethical complexities of artificial intelligence.

Set in a sleek San Francisco apartment, Doomers follows Seth, a brilliant but ousted tech visionary, as he attempts to reclaim control of the world’s first artificial general intelligence (AGI). His team of conflicted allies and adversaries are drawn into a high-stakes battle over the future of humanity.

The production is directed by Zsuzsa Magyar, whose background in film and art direction informs a strong visual sensibility. It features original set design by acclaimed British designer Tom Dixon.

Producer Isobel McCrum, an AI specialist at Microsoft, consulted closely on the script to ensure realism and relevance. She is joined by Noor de Falco, a curator and producer rooted in London’s contemporary art world.

Gasda’s signature site-specific approach continues with Doomers staged at the Rose Lipman Building in Hackney’s De Beauvoir Town, a Brutalist landmark and creative hub housing an intimate 60-seat theatre.

Matthew Gasda has emerged as one of New York’s most innovative theatrical voices. As playwright-in-residence at the Brooklyn Center for Theater Research, he has earned acclaim for works like Dimes Square and Zoomers, which explore life across generations with razor-sharp satire and emotional depth.

The cast includes Sam Hyrkin as Seth, Neetika Knight as Alina, Amy Brangwyn as Myra, Aaron Lynn as Jeff, Ishan Aziz as Sanjay, James Holmes as Richard, Yui Minari as Mei, Alexander Tol as Charlie, Shani Gray as Harriet, and Patrick Echlin as Eli.

The creative team also features Cosima Gardey (Associate Producer), Talia Augustidis (Sound Designer), Izzy James (Casting Director), Alexia Garrido Bult (Graphic Designer), Arisa Shiraishi (Website Designer), Alex Bäuml (Costume Designer), Livia Rose Magyar (Assistant Costume Designer), Freya Davies (Assistant Production Designer), and Jodi Rabinowitz (Lighting Designer).
