Maputo, Mozambique – Military personnel from the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) Role 1 Medical Unity made a visit to the Hearth Institute (ICOR) that supports the European mission with a Role 2 medical facility.
Welcomed by the director of the ICOR, Beatriz Ferreira, the EUMAM MOZ were able to make a tour through the ICOR facilities and know more about the work created in 2001 to provide Mozambican children with heart conditions from the most disadvantaged sections of Mozambican society with access to catheterization and heart surgery.

In addition to the official visit, which served to observe the mode of operation, this meeting also allowed for the planning of future partnership opportunities between EUMAM MOZ and ICOR with an impact on social health.
Role 2 provides damage control resuscitation and surgical treatment up to damage control surgery within 1 hour after injury. It is able to prepare and package patients (including those in intensive care) for onward transfer to a higher echelon of medical care.

Ensuring the health and operational capacity of EUMAM MOZ personnel in line with international humanitarian and medical standards, Role 2 provides damage control resuscitation and surgical treatment up to damage control surgery (DCS) within 1 hour after injury. If necessary, it is able to prepare and package patients (including those in intensive care) for onward transfer (by air) to a higher echelon of medical care.
EUMAM MOZ supports the FADM with the objective of strengthening the sustainability of Mozambique`s QRF, embedding them within a robust and autonomous operational cycle.
