Support for IDs in Apple Wallet is expanding to another new state today: Montana. If you live in Montana and head to the Wallet app on your iPhone, you’ll now have the option to add your ID for easy mobile access.
Apple Wallet support for IDs
Apple says that ID cards in Wallet can currently be used at select TSA checkpoints within a number of airports around the United States. Digital IDs can also be used at “select businesses and venues,” but your mileage may vary from one business to another.
Like in other states, Montana says that you must continue to carry your physical ID as well.
As detailed in our full roundup, here are the states that support IDs in Apple Wallet:
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Ohio
- Puerto Rico
The rollout of IDs in Apple Wallet has been slow, but Apple says more states are coming soon. Apple has promised that Connecticut, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Utah are also committed to support the feature. We are also expecting Arkansas and West Virginia to soon add support for the feature.
Apple Wallet in iOS 26
The Apple Wallet app is getting even better with iOS 26, set to be released to everyone next fall. Most notably, Apple is upgrading the boarding pass capabilities with support for in-depth Live Activities, airport maps, and integration with luggage tracking through AirTags and the Find My app.
In addition to digital IDs, iOS 26 will allow users in the United States to store their passport in the Wallet app for the first time. The digital passport can be used as an ID at select TSA checkpoints, in apps, and in person.
iOS 26 also upgrades the order tracking experience in Apple Wallet, makes it easier to view saved credit card details, brings new features to Apple Pay, and gives you the ability to disable promotional notifications.
