Fans of BBC‘s The Night Manager are eagerly waiting for the second series to be released, and it seems there may not be much longer to wait.

The six-part spy thriller was released back in 2016 and proved to be a huge hit with TV fans. The series is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by John le Carré.

Tom Hiddleston took on the lead role Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager, and he’s due to star in both the second and third series.

During an appearance on BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday (19 August), Tom hinted at when fans can expect the second season of The Night Manager as hosts Roman Kemp and Clara Amfo read out comments from viewers.

Tom, appearing on The One Show with his The Life of Chuck co-stars Karen Gillan and Mark Hamill, was told that somebody had tweeted the BBC show to share their excitement about The Night Manager.

Staring at the camera, the actor cheekily exclaimed: “Coming soon!” before grinning at Roman and Clara.

Last year, it was announced The Night Manager had been commissioned for a second and third series by the BBC and Amazon Prime Video, with Tom confirming he would be reprising his role in the upcoming series.

Further details have largely been kept under wraps, but the second series will be picking up where the first left off, despite the many years between the two seasons.

The Night Manager tells the story of Jonathan, a night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo and a former British soldier. He is recruited by Angela, played by Olivia Colman, who is the manager of a Foreign Office task force investigating illegal arms sales.

She tasks Jonathan with infiltrating the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper, portrayed by Hugh Laurie.

Previously talking about returning to The Night Manager for a new series, Tom said: “The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect.

“I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.”

The One Show airs on weekdays on BBC One at 7pm
