Birmingham City dominated League One last year, earning 111 points over the course of the season – that’s been reflected in the PFA Team of the YearBirmingham City's Jay Stansfield celebrates with teammate Tomoki IwataBirmingham City’s Jay Stansfield celebrates with teammate Tomoki Iwata(Image: PA)

As predicted, Birmingham City’s squad have almost flooded the League One Team of the Year, which was voted for by their peers through the Professional Footballers’ Association, on the back of their record breaking campaign last season.

Blues claimed 111 points last year in the third tier, to secure an immediate return to the Championship which never once looked to be in doubt under Chris Davies; they remained unbeaten at St Andrew’s over the course of the campaign and galloped away to lift the title, clear by 19 points of second placed Wrexham.

As such, as many as seven players have made it into the PFA Team of the Year for League One 2024/25; goalkeeper Ryan Allsop, defenders Ethan Laird, Alex Cochrane and Christoph Klarer, midfielders Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata and forward Jay Stansfield – the division’s joint-second top goalscorer – were all included through votes.

That seven were joined by winger Kwame Poku – who has since joined QPR after interest from Blues – Charlie Kelman, who spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient and claimed the golden boot with 23 goals before joining Charlton Athletic this summer – Richard Kone of Wycombe Wanderers and Lloyd Jones of Charlton.

Despite Blues’ successes and breaking of records, the actual PFA Player of the Year award went elsewhere – to Kone, of the Chairboys, who has, like Poku, since moved to QPR in the Championship. Moving from non-league Athletic Newham, he scored 18 League One goals last season and earned himself a move further up the ladder as a result.
