Acton Town station was evacuated on the London Underground on Wednesday morning. People were warned to not enter the station after a “fire alert”, TfL said. Travellers were advised to use London Buses instead, with tickets being accepted on those services as an alternative. An ambulance was spotted outside the station amid the disruption, and red “Do Not Enter” signs were displayed inside to prevent entry. The station was reopened after 20 minutes.

TfL wrote on its website at the time of the closure: “Closed – This station is closed while we respond to a fire alert. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.”

The station in West London serves both the Piccadilly and District lines.

There is currently no service between Parsons Green and Wimbledon and “severe delays” between Parsons Green to Edgware Road.

The station was briefly closed earlier this month, on August 4, due to another fire alert. In situations involving a suspected fire, an announcement is made instructing passengers to evacuate.

This will typically sound like: “Due to a reported emergency, this station is being evacuated. Please leave the station immediately.”

TfL said that the wording may vary depending on the situation and sometimes the announcement is made my staff at the station or through the station’s automated system.

You should take your bags and personal belongings with you unless staff advise against it or it is clearly unsafe to do so.

TfL has been approached for comment.
