American fried chicken chain Popeyes has announced an opening date for its next new Manchester restaurant – and it’s pretty soon.
The street food store, which originated in New Orleans, has been a big hit with diners since launching in the UK a few years ago. It opened its first Manchester restaurant in Piccadilly Gardens back in October 2023, before opening a second spot – and its first drive-thru in the city-region – on Bury New Road in April last year.
Each opening of a new Popeyes restaurant has seen people queuing overnight to try their viral chicken sandwiches – with some people saying that they had waited for over 17 hours to be first in line.
Now, Popeyes will be expanding on its Manchester offering once again with a new store within the Arndale, which will be opening its doors next Friday (August 29) at 11am.

And queues are definitely expected again because the chain has announced it will be giving away a host of freebies to the first in line. Marking their 33rd opening this year alone, the restaurant will be located on the lower ground of the shopping centre.
The first three customers will get the ultimate bragging rights of being able to order free Chicken Sandwiches for a whole year. The first 50 customers will also get their hands on some exclusive Popeyes UK merchandise.
The first 100 customers at the opening of the Arndale store will also get a free chicken sandwich to celebrate the big occasion.
Tom Crowley, Popeyes UK CEO, said: “The response to our first two Manchester restaurants has been incredible, and we’re sure our new Arndale location will be just as popular.
“The new opening marks an exciting step in our growth across the city, and we look forward to welcoming even more guests to experience the spirit of New Orleans.”

The new store, which will create 50 new jobs, will have 85 seats inside for customers alongside self-service kiosks and collection points for take-aways and delivery orders.
Popeyes chicken is marinated for 12 hours in its signature blend of bold Louisiana seasoning, then hand-breaded and battered to deliver a world-famous ‘shatter-crunch’. Alongside their iconic sandwich, they also serve hot wings, tenders and chicken wraps.
The new Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich will also be available at the Arndale store from opening day, following huge demand from fans for its return to the menu. It’s made up of a sweet and spicy twist on the iconic Popeyes classic – drizzled with Hot Honey sauce, topped with cheddar cheese and pickles, and served in a soft brioche bun.
Popeyes will open at the Arndale on Friday, August 29.
