A city centre square was closed off by emergency services as they responded to an alleged gas leak and power cut.

Blair Street and the adjacent Hunter Square had a cordon erected at its entrance while officers, firefighters, paramedics and SGN workers attended the site.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said they sent three appliances to the incident after receiving a report of a ‘chemical smell’ in the air at 4.32pm. They confirmed they later left the site at 7.19pm.

In a statement SGN said: “We received a call out from the SFRS who were in attendance at the Tron Tavern. Carbon monoxide was detected and gas supply to the building was isolated to make the situation safe.
