HELPING FAMILIES: Karen Cooke with some of the children at Home-Start Southport and Formby (Image: Mark Waugh)
Home-Start, based close to David Wilson Homes’ Pinewood Park development in Formby, has a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support to help families with young children through challenging times.
Its approach is as individual as the people it is helping.
Volunteers visit families weekly and offer practical and emotional support, whilst the charity’s family groups promote children’s social, emotional, and physical development.
Karen Cooke, manager at Home-Start Southport and Formby, said: We are very grateful for the £300 donation, this will help us provide free days out for vulnerable families supported by Home-Start through the summer holiday.

Home-Start Southport and Formby began in 2001, intending to offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress to prevent crisis and breakdown.
The charity notes that as little as two hours of support a week can make a big difference.
All its services are free, and it offers confidential, judgment-free help and support.
Claire Jarvis, managing director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “It’s important for us to support local charities, and Home-Start Southport and Formby offers a range of incredible services for families within the community.”
