This weekend sees the return of one of the region’s most vibrant and colourful celebrations – Manchester Pride. The streets will come alive as the annual parade weaves through the city centre, and the Gay Village comes as the much-anticipated festival party gets underway.
Taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 22 to 25), Manchester Pride is regarded as one of the biggest LGBTQ+ celebrations in the country and regularly attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year.
This year’s event will feature some new additions and tweaks to previous years, with the inclusion of new stage areas which will host some of the biggest names in music.
A new Mardi Gras area will host the likes of Olly Alexander, Nelly Furtado, Billy Porter and Leigh-Anne, plus many more. Meanwhile, the Gay Village Party will see performances from Samantha Mumba, B*witched, Sister Sledge and Danny Beard.

As always, the festival will conclude on Monday, August 25, with the Candlelit Vigil at Sackville Gardens. Held in collaboration with George House Trust, the poignant event honours those lost to HIV, whilst also standing in solidarity with those living healthy and happy lives today.
If you are attending the Pride Parade, it is worth being aware that multiple other events are also taking place in Greater Manchester this weekend, and journey times are likely to increase – particularly in the city centre. And, to allow the Parade to pass through the city centre safely, there will be a number of road closures and bus diversions along the route.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has advised against travelling into the city centre by car on Saturday if possible, as roads will be busier than usual and journeys may take much longer. They’ve also reissued advice to consider using public transport or completing journeys using park & ride.
The Parade will start at 12pm, with the last entry to the parade departing from the junction of Liverpool Road and Deansgate at 3pm and completing the route by 5.30pm on Fairfield Street.
