Wrexham are seeking their first win of the season as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Racecourse Ground.

It is two defeats from two games at the start of the Championship campaign but Phil Parkinson will still be encouraged by what he has seen from his side.

Parkinson labelled his side ‘too soft’ against West Brom in terms of their defending and it took two stoppage time goals for Southampton to get the better of Wrexham on the opening day.

If the Red Dragons can tighten up at the back, they will give themselves an excellent chance of opening their account against a struggling Wednesday side.

Parkinson has a number of injury concerns heading into the crucial clash. Josh Windass is expected to miss several weeks with a hamstring injury sustained against West Brom.

Jay Rodriguez and Andy Cannon are long-term absentees and it is yet unclear whether the likes of George Thomason and Liberato Cacace are fit to return to action.

Nathan Broadhead is expected to be handed his full debut after coming on for Windass in the defeat to the Baggies and is likely to play just behind Kieffer Moore.

There is also a huge decision to make in goal after Wrexham fans criticised Danny Ward for his performance last time out and want Arthur Okonkwo reinstated as the number one.

Wrexham v Sheffield Wednesday head-to-head record

Sheffield Wednesday have the historical advantage over the Red Dragons having won eight of the previous 15 meetings as per 11 v 11.

Wrexham have won five of those previous games, including the most recent clash in the 2006 League cup, running out 4-1 winners at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday narrowly defeated Wrexham in the very first meeting between the two sides, winning 1-0 in the Division Three clash back in 1975.

Parkinson will be confident that his side can rewrite history and take three points from a Wednesday side that are in turmoil off the pitch. However, the Red Dragons will know nothing is easy in the Championship.
