The phrase “let the dead rest”
means to allow the departed to be at peace and undisturbed in their final resting place, often expressed as a wish for their eternal rest.
You would therefore think that even those who allegedly hold the British monarchy in their highest esteem will obey those good manners and traditions.
Just show some respect.
There are of course matters of public interest concerning the British institutions of power. There are perfectly good reasons why for the sake of transparency and keeping the democratic institutions functioning as intended, you will want some accountability of the workings of the British monarchy. What I am leading to here, are principles and protocols of disclosure of important documents regarding the head of state, the British sovereign.
Disclosure rules for information about the British Sovereign, under the Freedom of Information Act, last for 20 years from the creation of the record or five years from the death of the Sovereign, whichever is longer. This “absolute” exemption for the Sovereign, the heir, and the second in line to the throne is subject to a public interest test only for other members of the Royal Family and the Royal Household.
Those of course concern the official business of the British sovereign not what goes on privately in the family affairs.
At least not when it concerns stories about what was allegedly said regarding the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. Any story will do in the gutters especially when those who have departed are not here to confirm or deny it. An open door to write what ever you want without the scrutiny of a libel case for defamation or simply invasion of privacy.
As of 21st of August 2025. History of articles of alleged comments made
Queen Elizabeth II RIP has been awaken from her place of eternal rest by alleged comments regarding the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. A regular stream of articles from a certain news media organisation who apparently have this obsession with the Duchess of Sussex.
They are not the only one, the news media pack have joined in. They apparently hunt in a pack, so to say. This time waking up Prince Philip RIP for his alleged words.
Alleged comments reported
There is of course a narrative that is being said and an apparent attempt to reclaim a legacy from a perceived view that someone else has attempted to claim it in some way or another.
Sensitive timing of stories
Yes, certain stories are allegedly timed to coincide with the diaries of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. That could be around the days before or after someone’s birthday. It could be when there is a perceived success story regarding a business venture into wine.
There are of course those who apparently think that a certain publication of a Royal book has given them the license to venture into anything concerning the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan. That book, Spare. What anyone chooses to write concerning their own family is up to them. However for those who read the book, I do not recall any passage in it which tramples on the traditions regarding the dead.
There is nothing new with stories being written regarding the Duchess of Sussex Meghan alleging all sorts comments made by someone. It seems to gather a lot of clicks, clickbait. Over time I am beginning to sense that even some readers are getting irritated with the narrative at times daily from those news media organisation. There are of course those who feed on it. A form of confirmation bias, meaning I hear what I already thought was the case and the opinion I hold of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan.
Remember them. Let the dead rest in peace.
Queen Elizabeth II, RIP.
Prince Philip, RIP.
