MAEL de Gevigney is ‘very very close’ to returning to the Barnsley squad for their tip to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
The French defender has missed the last three games with a sprained ankle.
Head coach Conor Hourihane said: “Mael is very, very close.
“We will monitor him over the next couple of days.
“We are hoping he will be involved in some capacity.
“Tuesday was just too soon.”
De Gevigney’s fellow centre-back Marc Roberts is out long-term as are left-back Georgie Gent and winger Fabio Jalo.
De Gevigney has been used at right-back and centre-back this season.
Jack Shepherd and Josh Earl have played in central defence recently with either Jono Bland or Tennai Watson at right-back.
