Folks who are used to having to return all of the books that they get from the Athens-Clarke County Library will be pleased to know that there will soon be an opportunity to keep some of them for good.

The Athens Library Store will hold its grand opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, allowing local readers to shop for quality secondhand books, vintage and one-of-a-kind books, gifts, cards, basic office supplies, and more. The store will be run by Friends of the Library, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, and proceeds from sales will go towards funding for the ACC Library.

Longtime patrons of the ACC Library may recall that the original Library Store closed down during the coronavirus pandemic and did not reopen.

The new shop is connected to the café area just inside the ACC library at the 2025 Baxter St. location, and guests who come to the grand opening will be able to enjoy prizes, activities, and refreshments. Prices for the used books range from 50 cents to $5.
