ST. GABRIEL, La. (WAFB) – Police said they have arrested a man in connection with the theft of fiber optic cables that left people in St. Gabriel and Sunshine without cable and internet.
According to the St. Gabriel Police Department, the suspect, Gregory Doster, faces charges of felony theft and felony criminal damage to property.
The fiber optic cable theft left the residents without cable and internet in August and September of 2024, authorities said. They added that AT&T had to deal with about $51,000 worth of damage.
Police said that Doster was identified as a suspect during the investigation, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. However, authorities said the suspect left Louisiana after learning about his pending arrest.
Authorities in Iowa were later able to take Doster into their custody. According to St. Gabriel police, he was transported back to Iberville Parish and was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail on Saturday, April 19.
Following Doster’s arrest, St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau warned people against committing similar crimes in the future.
