Sports Mole previews Saturday’s Championship clash between Sheffield United and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Desperate to get off the mark in the Championship, Sheffield United will welcome Millwall for a clash at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

The Blades have struggled so far this term, while the Lions are looking for their third victory of the season.

Match preview

Ruben Selles‘s Sheffield Utd agonisingly missed out on promotion in 2024-25 when they were beaten by Sunderland in the playoff final, and it seems that they are suffering something of a hangover from that heartbreak.

Last Saturday, the Blades followed up their 4-1 opening day defeat at the hands of Bristol City and their elimination from the EFL Cup by losing 1-0 to Swansea City.

Dropping three points at the weekend has Selles’s side rooted to the foot of the table, and means that they have lost every game so far this season.

This run of four losses on the bounce may have come as a surprise to fans, who saw their team do the inverse in pre-season, when they won four consecutive matches.

Regardless, a first victory would be enough to lift Sheffield Utd up to 17th in the table, leapfrogging the likes of Wrexham and Blackburn Rovers to go level on points with their opponents.

Meanwhile, Alex Neil‘s Millwall missed out on the playoffs in 2024-25, but they have made a strong start this time around as they look to finally earn promotion to the top flight.

The Lions began their Championship campaign by beating Norwich 2-1, before securing passage to the next round of the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win over Newport County last week.

However, Neil’s men came undone this past Saturday when they were thrashed 3-0 by Middlesbrough, who produced three second-half goals to seize the points.

Looking to bounce back from that defeat, the visitors will draw confidence from their excellent travelling record that features six straight victories on the road ahead of this clash.

Three points this weekend could take Milwall into the top six in a best-case scenario, though they will be sure to reach the top half by the next matchday with another triumph.

Team News

Alfie Doughty of Millwall on August 16, 2025

Sheffield Utd are set to be without Jamie Shackleton once again as he works his way back from a foot injury, and Callum O’Hare should start on the right wing this weekend.

Likewise, midfielders Oliver Arblaster and Tom Davies are unavailable, so expect to see Djibril Soumare and Sydie Peck join Gustavo Hamer in the centre of the park.

As for Milwall, left-back Alfie Doughty is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Zak Sturge should start in the backline on Saturday alongside left centre-back Jake Cooper.

On the opposite side, right-back Danny McNamara is out until October, though centre-half Tristan Crama is capable of covering for him once again.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Lukas Jensen has been out since April with an Achilles tendon injury, and Steven Benda should start between the sticks again.

Sheffield United possible starting lineup:

Cooper; Seriki, Bindon, Robinson, Burrows; Hamer, Soumare, Peck; O’Hare, Campbell, Barry

Millwall possible starting lineup:

Benda; Crama, Tanganga, Cooper, Sturge; Norre, Mitchell; Neghli, Coburn, Azeez; Ivanovic

We say: Sheffield United 1-2 Millwall

The Blades have struggled so far in 2025-26, and they could continue their losing streak on Saturday despite playing at home.

Millwall’s strength on the road is well documented, and with six wins on the bounce ahead of this weekend, as well as six victories from their last seven matches overall, they look set for another three points.
