“Horse was hit with force on each side by [other] horses: ruptured suspensory, fractured sesamoid.” Royal had just turned two, and this was her very first race.

J R Bordeaux, May 18, Sunray R
“Horse went down, rolled three times: compound fracture – visible break; external bleeding.” J R was nine, and this was his 41st time under the whip.

“Dead of colic in stall.”

Lethal Fast Man, Jun 20, Ruidoso R
“Fractured sesamoid.” Lethal was five.

El Cruz de Marzo, Jun 20, Ruidoso R (same race as above)
“Fractured fetlock.” El Cruz was four.

Famous King, Jun 20, Ruidoso R (same race as two horses above)
“Broke both front legs.” Again, that’s both front legs. Famous was five.

Bp Catching Cowgirls, Jun 27, Ruidoso R
“Fractured knee.” Bp was two.

One Famous Moonlight, Jun 27, Ruidoso R
“Fell: lumbar fracture.” One Famous was two.

Candys Cause, Jun 29, Ruidoso R
“Vanned off to test barn, [then] dropped and died.” Candys was three.

Flying Habit 123, Jul 5, Ruidoso S
“Colic, died.” Flying was two and had been raced Jun 27.

Shaykin, Jul 6, Ruidoso R
“Bled [pulmonary hemorrhage], died in ambulance.” Shaykin was two.
