Meghan Markle’s most well-known acting role is Rachel Zane in Suits, but her Hollywood career actually started years before this.
The Duchess of Sussex, who ended up giving up acting when she married Prince Harry, had a handful of small TV roles when she first started out – including an appearance on General Hospital. However, these were small fry compared to when she was given the chance to star alongside Ashton Kutcher.
Meghan had recently graduated and was back home in Los Angeles when the chance to audition for A Lot Like Love came up.
Royal biographer Sean Smith wrote in his book Meghan Misunderstood that the audition ended up being “like a scene from a satire on Hollywood.”
He explained, “From Meghan’s point of view, the important consideration was that she did not give up.”
Despite Meghan getting a smaller role than she had wanted, Smith said there was one “small consolidation” as her character ended up saying a few more words than just “Hi.”
He explained, “She sits beside Ashton on a plane and says ‘Hi,’ but then has a brief exchange with the passenger sitting across the gangway and tells him her name is Natalie.”
At the time, A Lot Like Love drew a lot of fans thanks to Ashton Kutcher’s starring role. Now, it’s largely remembered for being Meghan’s film debut.
