Spice-seekers, curry-connoisseurs, and anybody who enjoys stuffing their face with outrageously delicious food; gather round. For the first time in nine long years, the beloved Brick Lane Curry Festival is returning to the streets of the East End next month. And even if the weather doesn’t plan on playing ball, this free-to-attend festival will be bringing the heat regardless.
In a bid to reclaim its title as the ‘Curry Capital’ of the UK, Brick Lane will be transforming into a vibrant hub of culture, colour, and (of course) curry for the occasion. The festival will showcase the legendary local curry houses, shining a spotlight on the rich culinary traditions of the area. And it’ll also give visitors the chance to enjoy a variety of free community events and experiences throughout the weekend.

The Brick Lane Curry Festival will deliciously descend upon the capital on September 19, and will culminate in the main event on September 21. The first two days of the festival will allow visitors to partake in the likes of henna painting workshops, Bangla-style dance classes, and personal shopping experiences. There will also be plenty of sensational street food to sample. But the final day of the festival will kick things up a notch.
September 21 will start as it’ll mean to go on, with a vibrant procession, filled with themed-floats and dancers, weaving its way from Buxton Street to the Brick Lane Arch. Street food stalls from local restaurants will be serving up a whole host of delicious regional dishes throughout the day, and there will be an abundance of exciting activities for visitors to get stuck in to. We’re talking pop-up cooking demos, live graffiti presentations, DJ’s, stilt-walkers, music and magicians – just to name a few.

Brick Lane continues to be a wonderful tapestry of culture, cuisine, and a creativity; beloved for its delicious food, colourful street art, and unique vintage stores. Ever since the very first curry houses set up shop in the mid-20th century, the iconic street has remained a cultural magnet, attracting Londoners and beyond. And the Brick Lane Curry Festival will be the perfect way to pay homage to the area’s rich heritage, and celebrate its bright future.
The Brick Lane Curry Festival takes place from September 19-21. The main event (including the procession) will take place on September 21 from 12pm-9pm.
