A mum said she is “too embarrassed” to return to her local M&S store after she claims she was accused of shoplifting. Nicolette Tranini, 46, from Aintree, went to the M&S store at Aintree Shopping Park last Friday (August 15) for her weekly shop, like every other week.

She arrived at the shop after work at around 5.30pm and bought some shoes, for herself and her daughter and some cosmetics, which were in the 75% off sale the shop is currently holding. She told the ECHO how she went to the tills and paid for the items with a voucher, before packing everything into her bag and heading for the exit.

Nicolette said: “As I was leaving, not far from the tills the sales assistant stopped me and said I haven’t paid, I told her I had and asked her to call security to sort it out.

“It started attracting attention and it was making me feel embarrassed.” Nicolette said she went back to the tills with the staff member who called for her colleague to come over. Nicolette claims to have shown staff the receipt and items in her bag.

M&S said it has requested Nicolette’s contact details so it can contact her following the incident.

Nicolette claims to have shown staff the receipt and items in her bag. She said: “I started to feel really embarrassed, people were looking and they wouldn’t believe I’d paid for the items.

“I ended up walking out the shop and left the bags. I’m a regular in that shop, the staff know me, I go in every single week for my weekly shop. I easily spend up to £700 per month in there. I buy my food, cleaning products, dog food, everything at M&S, now I’m too embarrassed to go back.”

Nicolette claims she’s had to start shopping at the Liverpool ONE M&S store because she is “too embarrassed” to step foot in her regular shop.

A spokesperson for M&S said: “Our customer assistants are always on hand to help customers with their shopping and will support at the self-service tills with customer’s transactions, and this is what our customer assistant was doing in store on Friday.

“We would be very happy to speak with Nicolette about the experience in store so we can understand more, and we have requested her contact details so we can reach out to her.”
