Princess Charlotte is the queen of style, with an accessory game that is undeniable. Even at just 10-years-old, the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton has already developed a signature look in one key area. Royal insiders pointed out an enduring style that Princess Charlotte always seems to wear, and it’s adorable.

Insiders have noticed that since Charlotte was a toddler, she almost always attends events with braids in her hair, most often with two braids on either side of her head that join together in the middle in a hair half-up/half-down style.

“Charlotte has always been a big fan of plaits and has worn plaited hair throughout most of her public appearances as a royal,” Laura Sutcliffe, Fashion and Beauty News Editor at Hello! said, adding that the pre-teen’s hair always looks “so neat, tidy and pretty at the same time.”

From going to Christmas services to watching Wimbledon, Princess Charlotte often rocks this style, usually with a colorful bow tied to her hair as well. Even at King Charles III’s coronation, she wore her hair in braids and a bun, adorned with a shimmery headpiece.

For a girl who is both fashion-conscious and sporty, it’s important to have a hairstyle that looks elegant and pretty without getting in the way. We can’t see Princess Charlotte spending tons of time getting her hair curled or put up in a perfect updo just to laugh or play rubgy with her brothers Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7. This hairstyle shows that she is style-conscious and still loves fun.

One notable exception to the braids look happened last month, when she traveled to Switzerland with her dad to cheer on England’s soccer team. I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason her hair was styled straight down and tucked behind her ears instead of a braid was because her mom wasn’t there — dads aren’t always skilled in the hair-braiding department!

Princess Charlotte is definitely a fashion icon, and we love how she incorporates braids into most looks to create a signature style.
