Shakur Stevenson could be set for a huge fight to kick off 2026.
The American is the current WBC lightweight champion, and made the latest defence of his belt in July when he defeated William Zepeda by unanimous decision at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.
It was arguably the best performance of Stevenson’s career, and saw him prove a lot of fans wrong who had began to doubt him following a lacklustre performance against Josh Padley earlier in the year.
Three-weight world champion Stevenson will now look to build on that victory with his next outing, and it appears it is going to come against another fighter that has claimed world honours in multiple divisions.
The man in question is Teofimo Lopez, the current WBO super-lightweight champion who was last in action in May when he beat Arnold Barboza at Times Square in New York to retain his belt.
Lopez was also a unified world champion at lightweight, and he has posted on social media to claim that a deal has been agreed to face Stevenson next.
“I’ve already accepted the fight! I’ll see you the beginning of the year Shakur Stevenson.”

The two men have gone back and forth about a potential fight with one another over the last few weeks, but it appeared that Stevenson was also considering a fight with Lamont Roach, after Roach failed to secure his rematch with Gervonta Davis due to ‘Tank’ instead choosing to take on Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
If Lopez’s post is to be believed though, it means Stevenson has opted for a fight with the reigning WBO super-lightweight champion, in a bout that would certainly kick off 2026 with a bang for boxing fans.
