A fire has began during a protest in Glasgow City Centre which prompted an emergency response.

Images from the scene this evening showed the blaze burning against the kerb at the junction of Gordon Street and Mitchell Street.

Police officers were seen standing guard as protestors were spotted carrying a banner while onlookers watched on from the pavements.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live that the fire was started during the protest this evening, with firefighters racing to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters attended a fire at the junction of Mitchell Street and Gordon Street this evening.

The fire was in the open and was extinguished by firefighters.

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
