A man has been arrested following a 12 hour incident with armed police in a quiet cul-de-sac.

The male ‘barricaded himself inside a property’ off Pearman Road, Rubery, in the early hours of Easter Sunday (April 20).

Several neighbouring properties in the tucked away street were evacuated and a cordon set up as specialist officers and negotiators tried to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

A 34-year-old man was arrested around 12.45pm on suspicion of threats to kill.

The major police scene was then scaled down.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: “A man aged 34 was arrested at around 12.45pm on suspicion of threats to kill after voluntarily leaving the property.

“We would like to thank the residents for their understanding as we brought the incident to a safe conclusion.”

A resident of Gannow Manor Crescent nearby said: “This has been going since 12.30am.

“All the police had turned up and there were drones in the sky.

“There were police cars parked up Pearman Road but it’s been quiet, I think some houses have been told to evacuate.

“It’s quiet round here because we are out of the way, you’ve got Waseley Hills Country Park just up the road.”

A mother-of-six said : “I woke up at 7am and I saw armed officers.

“We could see police on the grove, It’s really frightening, there was lots of police cars, riot vans and around 20 armed officers.

“Houses have been evacuated but they said we could stay.”
