As a largely ceremonial role, the Irish presidency is less about policy than it is about having a story – and Aras hopeful Heather Humphreys certainly has one.
Born in 1963 in the Co Monaghan village of Drum, one of the few Protestant-majority settlements in the Republic of Ireland, Humphreys’ background is unique when it comes to Irish politicians – and it’s something that may endear her to northern unionists.
