Wrexham continue their search for a first Championship win of the season with a meeting against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Welsh side are back in the second tier of English football for the first time since 1982, but are winless at present.

However, Wrexham are backed to beat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday amid the Owls’ struggles.

Ahead of the match, Phil Parkinson could make a key change to his starting eleven.

The Dragons have continued to improve their squad going into the August 23 fixture.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Wrexham had signed Callum Doyle from Manchester City in a deal that could reach £7.5m.

Rangers also wanted to sign Doyle, while one EFL pundit has called the Wrexham defender ‘brilliant’.

Despite being just 21, he arrives in Wales with a wealth of Championship experience, having featured for the likes of Coventry City and Norwich City.

After the signing was confirmed, it was reported that Doyle will play as a left-sided centre-back in Parkinson’s back three.

This position previously belonged to Lewis Brunt, but given the former Man City man’s experience at this level and the big money paid for him, he could slot straight into the team against Sheffield Wednesday.

As has been the case with each promotion, previously key figures at the club are dropping down the pecking order.

The influx of new talent this summer has already seen major changes to Wrexham’s eleven.

Kieffer Moore and Josh Windas formed a completely new frontline prior to the latter’s injury.

Lewis O’Brien is already a nailed-on starter in the centre of midfield as well, and it will be interesting to see who out of George Dobson or Matty James drops out once Ollie Rathbone returns.
