A former Leeds Rhinos enforced and England international has signed a new deal to commit to his 22nd season of professional rugby league.

Brett Ferres recently passed the 450 mark for games in his career but he’ll look to push on even further after signing a new one-year deal to remain with League One outfit Goole Vikings.

Ferres was one of a number of high-profile names to sign with the Vikings for 2025 in what is their first professional season. Coached by Scott Taylor and having Jamie Shaul at full-back, there’s a very Hull FC-centric feel about the team but the heartbeat of it is Ferres.

The 39-year-old started his career with Bradford Bulls in 2005 but has also played for Wakefield Trinity, his hometown club Castleford Tigers, and Huddersfield Giants before ending his Super League career with Leeds Rhinos in 2019.

Since then, he’s featured for Featherstone and Doncaster before signing for Goole this past year where he’s played 16 times to date.

The club captain will go around again with Goole releasing a statement to confirm that Ferres had signed a new one-year deal, marking what will be his 22nd professional season.

Given the achievement of playing for so long, Goole have confirmed that they will apply for an official testimonial match so fans can recognise Ferres’ service.

Speaking on his new deal, the 39-year-old said: “Me and the family are glad to be staying at the Vikings and playing for another year, I’ve really enjoyed my time here and leading the boys.

“The club has put some solid foundations in place and I’m really looking forward to building on those with a very exciting year coming up. It’s a really exciting project and it’s something I want to be a part of.

“Everyone at the club has been fantastic with me and the family, and I am grateful and humbled that they’ll be applying for a Testimonial next season.”

Head coach Scott Taylor added: “Brett is the ultimate professional. His standards, experience and leadership have been second to none, and exactly what the group needed in our first season.

“He continues to have a big role to play in driving our club forward, and as you have seen, that responsibility has driven him to play some of his best rugby over the last few months.

“For Brett to play into his 22nd professional season speaks volumes about him, its something that can only be achieved if you are serious about your rugby, your training and your standards – and that will hopefully rub off on some of the younger blokes we’re nurturing here.”
