Manchester Utd are seeking a £50,000-a-year “minder” to look after their players.

The role will be based at the club’s Carrington training ground. The successful job applicant will also look after the first team squad at games at Old Trafford. They will also act as head of security for away games in this country.

The job advert says they will also work at European fixtures. But after their dismal season last year – finishing 15th – they didn’t qualify for Champions League, Europa League or Conference League. Applicants will be expected to “remain alert to current threats” and “provide physical protection” for “designated principals.”

Roles will also include “route reconnaissance” and “venue assessments.” Job hopefuls also need to have a SIA Close Protection License.

Required attributes include being “physically fit and able to respond quickly to dynamic situations.” And having a “police or military advanced driving qualification” is preferred.

There is no salary given for the Close Protection Officer Team Leader job. But similar roles in the area pay from £50,000 to £100,000 or even more for high profile figures.

The Man United squad is estimated to be worth £750m. They include new summer signings £73m Benjamin Sesko and £62m Matheus Cunha.

Other top stars include captain Bruno Fernandes – £45m – and England’s £10m defender Luke Shaw.

About the role, the job advert reads: “To ensure the personal safety and security of Manchester United ’s high-profile individuals including players, executives, and guests, both on and off-site.

“The role requires the delivery of professional, discreet, and effective close protection in a dynamic and often high-pressure environment, in alignment with the club’s values and brand.”

The key responsibilities state: “To manage and deliver the Club’s Team Protection Program.

“This involves working closely with various internal departments and external stakeholders to establish travel plans, assess security requirements and plan accordingly.

“Travel with the men’s team as the protection lead – all domestic and European fixtures.

“Plan and deliver the security and protection operation for a pre-season tour.

“Provide physical protection and risk mitigation for designated principals, including travel planning, route reconnaissance, and venue assessments.

“Conduct dynamic risk assessments and maintain situational awareness in real-time.

“Collaborate with club security, venue staff, law enforcement, and external agencies to ensure seamless protection operations.

“Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times, upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

“Travel nationally and internationally, ensuring secure transportation and accommodation arrangements.”

It adds: “Support the safety and security team with event security and operational planning at Old Trafford, Carrington and during away fixtures.

“Remain alert to current threats, intelligence reports, and social media activity relevant to the protection of assigned individuals.”

Essential qualifications and experience include: “SIA Close Protection License, enhanced DBS.

“Proven experience in close protection roles, preferably within high-profile or sports environments. Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential information.”

Desirable attributes include: “knowledge of football, police or military advanced driving qualification.”
