Sovereignty, who won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes this year, wins the 156th running of the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
He is the first horse since Justify’s Triple Crown win in 2018 to win two legs of the Triple Crown.
Sovereignty defeated the rest of the five-horse field, passing Bracket Buster down the stretch to win the race by 10 lengths. It was the first Travers victory for jockey Junior Alvarado.
Sovereignty is the fifth horse to win the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Travers, joining Twenty Grand (1931), Triple Crown winner Whirlaway (1941), Shut Out (1942) and Thunder Gulch (1995).
