INVERCLYDE Athletics Club contributed to a Team Scotland gold in the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.
Andy Douglas represented the club in the senior home international at Whinlatter in the Lake District.

He competed in the ‘Up and Down’ race, which serves as the UK Athletics trial for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, due to take place in Spain next month
Andy placed fourth in a closely contested event under sunny and hot conditions. However, his result contributed to Scotland’s achievement of team gold.
Elsewhere, the Scottish half marathon, held between Edinburgh and Musselburgh, was the focus for Gregor Yates. He had a strong race to seal a third place finish and top the male 40 category.

Closer to home, the Paisley 10k was the focus for more Inverclyde athletes.
John Bell remains in heavy training for his Ultra Challenge at the end of the month, which meant he tried to go with the fast pace.
However, to avoid possible injury, he eased back to settle for a sixth place finish.
Next up for Inverclyde was John Sharp, who crossed the line with a new personal best in fourth place, finishing two places ahead of Jack Letson.
The returning Alan Callan was happy with his performance, having no issues to hold back his training.
After a month off, Nynke Mulholland used one of her favourite races to assess her fitness, finishing third in the women’s event – and whilst Kay Greg slipped on a water bottle with three kilometres to go, she was happy to finish safely.

(Image: Supplied) Several of the club’s Fit2Run scheme regulars participated, with Samantha O’Neill and Toni Louise Norrie achieving new PBs, and Steph McCann beating her previous best by nearly two minutes, whilst Mary Patterson completed her 10k successfully.
More club members were also active within the Inverclyde area with David and Alan Henderson amongst the top finishers at the Greenock parkrun on Saturday morning, while Abi Hammerman was first over the line with a new personal best.
Sunday morning saw Anna Shearer, Rudy Byrne, Faye Holmes, Murray Jameison, Rudi Stetz, and Caleb Freeman all having strong top ten placing at the Battery Park Junior Park Run with Caleb producing a new PB.
Over at the Gourock pool there was more success with Olivia Lyne, Nina Spirit- Hawthorne, Nuala Munro and Charlie Lyne all on the podium for the 17 & Under category when competing in the Inverclyde Aquathon organised by Inverclyde Leisure.

There were also strong performances from Leon Spirit Hawthorne in the same category and Jonah Cassidy competing in the Trisstars2 event.
