A popular pub in inner-city Bristol has announced that it will be closing after this weekend.
The Miners Arms in St Werburghs told customers it will be “taking a pause for a bit”.
The pub said the current climate for the pub trade has made it difficult for the business, despite the hard work from all its staff.
Making the announcement, The Miners Arms said: “Dear valued customers, times have been unbelievably tough for the Miner’s, the worst in our 23 years here.
“Despite the incredibly hard work of Donnie, Jacob and the brilliant team we have been laid low by the current climate for the pub trade in general and changes to our trading terms.
“We have put everything we can into the pub. It is overwhelmingly sad and frustrating. I am sorry it has come to this.
“It is clear we cannot continue in the current form. Work is carrying on a pace behind the scenes, but for the moment we need to pause and say thank you and goodbye, for a bit.
“Hopefully, only for a short time. So, please, drink the pub dry – well, drier still.
“Today, Saturday and Sunday, if we make it that far.
“We’ll be closing when we’ve basically got nothing left, but do hope to see you when we reopen. Watch this space.
“All the best, Glen”.
An event has been set up to say goodbye before the pub closes.
A drink the pub dry event is running this weekend, until stocks last.
People have left comments of support for the pub and shared their upset at the announcement of the closure.
One person said: “This is tragic. Much love to all the Miners Arms family”.
Someone else said: “This makes me sad. I am sorry to hear it’s not working. The Miners will always be/has been one of Bristol’s finest, and one of the true pubs remaining.”
Another person said: “Oh no! What a shame, end of an era!… Never thought this would happen to the miners!!!”
