A stunning barn conversion, complete with a sauna, games room and a hot tub overlooking Highland cows, has been nominated as one of the top places to stay in the UK – and it’s not far from Liverpool

Parlour Barn is nestled in the rural market town of Leek in Staffordshire, around one hour and 20 minutes from Liverpool, and is proving extremely popular. Fondly referred to as the ‘Queen of the Staffordshire Moorlands’, Leek boasts a traditional town centre with a stone-cobbled market square, indoor and outdoor markets, and a variety of independent shops offering local produce, antiques, clothing and gifts.

Surrounded by rugged countryside, Leek serves as an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Local holiday cottage Parlour Barn has recently been recognised among the best hot tub breaks in the country in the Sykes Gems Awards.

A separate Wild West-themed games shack provides ample entertainment for children, including a pool table, air hockey, table tennis, table football, karaoke machine and a classic arcade game console featuring 60 retro favourites.

The sauna and hot tub are situated in the enclosed garden, which leads directly onto a field housing Highland cows, providing guests with a unique opportunity to observe these delightful creatures up close.

There’s additionally a Valais encounter where visitors can greet the resident black-nosed sheep, pet them and even cuddle the lambs for a photograph. This experience costs £10 per person, whilst children under three enter free of charge.

One recent guest commented in their review of Parlour Barn: “The highlight of our stay has got to be the beautiful scenery with the livestock right on our doorstep, being able to sit in the patio area in an hot tub amongst Highland cows was something quite special to us.

“We also booked the Highland cow experience and myself and my daughter met two of the Highland cows (Pablo and Maisie) who were wonderful! We groomed them, cuddled them and got to know them … All in all, the experience was brilliant and we would come back in a heartbeat.”

A week-long break for up to six visitors costs from £1,078 through Sykes Cottages. You can find out more here.

For an option closer to home, ‘The Granary’ in Knutsford, Cheshire, costs £1,820 for seven nights. With a cosy open fire, a games room, and glowing five star ratings, it makes for the perfect scenic autumn getaway. You can check it out here.
