An elderly woman is fighting for her life after being mown down by an e-bike in Sheffield.

The woman was rushed to hospital after she was hit by the bike in Wisewood Lane on Wednesday, August 20, just after 5pm. The victim, who is in her 80s, has suffered life-threatening injuries and her condition is still described as such.

The e-bike rider, a 37-year-old man, remained at the scene and has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs. He has been released on police bail.

South Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. A force spokesperson said: “We’re appealing for witnesses and those with footage to come forward and assist us with our investigation into a collision involving an elderly woman and an electric bicycle.

“Yesterday (20 August), just after 5pm, roads policing officers responded to a collision in Wisewood Lane in Sheffield. It is believed that a woman in her 80s was walking along the road when she has been involved in a collision with a black e-bike.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, has footage of the collision or the e-bike prior to the collision is urged to get in touch.”
