A woman has been released from police custody after being arrested during an anti-migrant protest in the city yesterday, Saturday, August 23.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a 37-year-old woman was arrested during the demonstrations in Bristol on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
Today, Sunday, August 24, a spokesperson for the force confirmed a woman has been released under investigation following the protests.
BristolLive reported that no officer suffered serious physical injuries or was required to go to hospital following the protest.
A number of other people were detained during the protests, but were de-arrested the same day.
A group of anti-immigration protesters gathered at Castle Park and were faced with hordes of counter protesters.
Police officers formed a human wall, blocking off a key road, and both groups were singing and chanting throughout the afternoon.
At the time of the protests, Chief Inspector Keith Smith said: “Our priority today has been to enable lawful peaceful protest for both groups.
“Our officers have dealt admirably with a really challenging situation and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank them for their professionalism.
“While there were moments of disturbance, we’re pleased to say the two protests have passed without significant incident.”
Police officers were stood down yesterday around 5pm (August 23).
A dispersal order, which gave officers additional power to move people causing a disturbance, was in place until 7am today (August 24).
