A SHIRLEY school has been donated stationery equipment to help it stretched budgets.

Haslucks Green Junior School has been handed £250 worth of stationery, which included a number of handwriting pens, whiteboard pens, pencils and glue sticks from West Midlands housebuilder David Wilson Homes.

Due to spiralling costs and limited budgets, the school had been forced to ask pupils to bring in their own stationery to use during lessons.

And the donation from David Wilson Homes will go some way to helping reduce costs for both the school and families of the pupils.

Helen Street, headteacher at Haslucks Green Junior School, said: “In a time when school budgets are increasingly stretched, this kind of support makes a real difference.

“These resources will be put to great use across our classrooms, helping to enrich learning and ensure pupils have access to the materials they need every day.

“It’s heartwarming to see businesses recognising the challenges schools are facing and stepping in to make a difference.

“Contributions like this not only support learning but also help foster a sense of community and shared responsibility for our children’s education.

“We’re so appreciative of this kindness and generosity.”

According to statistics from the IFS, total spending on education in the UK in 2023-24 had fallen by 11 per cent compared to 2010-11, with budgets falling by £15billion.

Helen Lewis, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to work with the local community, and we hope to be able to continue this endeavour and leave a long-lasting, positive impact on the area.

“We are pleased to have been able to provide a donation of stationery to Haslucks Green Junior School and we hope the staff, pupils and their families will be able to reap the benefits.”
