Hostage stars Oldhamer Jones as British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, who is in the middle of tense negotiations with her French counterpart, played by Julie Delpy, when she finds out that her husband has been taken hostage.

The action ramps up throughout the five-part series, with explosions at Downing Street and hostage videos with people held up at gunpoint.

Now, the show has topped the top 10 TV shows in the UK Today, with many tuning in to see the 46-year-old’s performance in the thrilling series.

And the show even makes nods to Jones’ Oldham roots, with Easter eggs mentioning her character Dalton’s support of Oldham Athletic.

Easter eggs are items, messages or other features which hidden in a film or TV show as an added joke or nod to something.

In one scene, when discussing cuts to the military that Prime Minister Dalton has made, the leader of the opposition jibes: “Now, thanks to the Right Honourable Lady, you can fit the entire British Army into Wembley Stadium, and still have room for the away fans of her beloved Oldham FC.”

In other scenes, when Prime Minister Dalton is in her office, a framed shirt of Oldham Athletic’s 2023-24 home kit can be seen hanging in the background.

Hostage has received mixed reviews since launching on Netflix, with some people commenting on Facebook that they loved it and plenty of praise being heaped on Jones for her performance.

Meanwhile on Google, where the show currently has a 2.5 out of five rating, some viewers said they felt there were holes in the plot, which some even described as “unbelievable”.

The show currently has a rating of 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb, however it has scored a high rating of 88 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.
