Coldplay concerts never run short of surprises. Just a month after Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR executive Kristin Cabot’s viral kiss cam scandal, another jumbotron spectacle has stolen the limelight. This time, however, it didn’t culminate in a controversy but unfolded into a lovely proposal. During Coldplay’s London concert at Wembley Stadium on Friday, August 22, the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, helped a fan propose to his ladylove, but not without giving a playful nod to the past controversy. The video of the sweet moment has now gone viral on social media.
The clip shows the man on the Jumbotron, holding up a banner with the words “I want to propose” written on it. The placard came with an arrow pointing towards a woman standing in front of him. After reading the note, Chris Martin said, “Okay, now listen. My brother, I need you to nod as I do some basic security checks, okay?” before proceeding to ask, “Is this person your partner? Yes? No one else’s partner?”

When the man nodded affirmatively, the Yellow singer wanted to know, “Are you cousins or siblings, or anything weird like that? Are you AI? Are you real people?”. This time too, when the man answered with a yes, Chris Martin said, “Okay, then I think we can continue.”
Soon after, Chris Martin set a romantic mood by singing an impromptu song, imbued with the proposal instruction: “ My beautiful brother, here is some advice for free. As we all look on and see you go down, I advise you to get down on one knee.” The man followed the vocalist’s advice and knelt on one knee, pulling out a ring from his pocket. The woman gushed and covered her face coyly before sharing a lovely kiss.

Watching the couple from the stage, Chris Martin sang, “Congratulations, my brother and my sister. What a beautiful girl. What a wonderful guy. On a day like this, I encourage you to kiss. I hope you’re happy until the day that you die.”
Coldplay will wrap up their Music of the Spheres world tour on September 8 at the London Stadium.
