It’s not often we’re blessed with an August bank holiday as glorious as this one. Usually they can be a bit of a wash out but today Greater Manchester has enjoyed wall to wall sunshine.

Many of us will be enjoying the weather with a barbecue at home, or perhaps a picnic in the park.

But a nice way to round off the day is with a trip to a beer garden, where you can relax with a refreshing drink and soak up the last rays of sunshine. It’s also a nice distraction if you’re back at work tomorrow.

Across Greater Manchester are beer gardens in all shapes and sizes, from tiny city-centre courtyards to canal-side terraces.

Head to Littleborough in Rochdale and you’ll find a beer garden with perhaps one of the best views in Greater Manchester.

The Wine Press is a restaurant-turned-pub with outdoor seating which overlooks Hollingworth Lake, providing the perfect spot for a pint, glass of wine or soft drink while the sun sets.

If you want to make an evening of it the menu features classic pub dishes including pies, steaks and burgers. But it’s the incredible views across the water which really make this place stand out, as many visitors have highlighted.

One reviewer wrote on Tripadvisor: “Fantastic place with amazing views over the lake… the staff are second to none and make every visit special. Great menu and great selection of drinks!”

You could even make the most of the light evening (while it lasts) and enjoy a stroll beside the water before or after your pub visit, and make the most of this bank holiday Monday.
