Beatles fans across the world will soon be able to swap air guitars for essays as the University of Liverpool’s one-of-a-kind Masters degree dedicated to the Fab Four makes a huge comeback – this time online.

Launching in September 2026, the part-time MA in The Beatles, Heritage and Culture will take a deep dive into how John, Paul, George and Ringo continue to shape not just music, but Liverpool itself. From tourism to urban regeneration, civic design to the creative industries, students will explore just how much influence four lads from Liverpool still have on the city and beyond.

There’s even the option to spend two weeks in Liverpool, soaking up the history where it actually happened. Students can sit in on daily lectures, take tours of landmarks, and meet everyone from historians to city officials who are still building on the Beatles legacy.

Dr Holly Tessler, Programme Director, said:

“Offering the programme as an online degree will enable people from all around the world to study Liverpool’s unique Beatles environment, history and heritage from scholars and practitioners who are immersed in this work.”

The University of Liverpool is already recognised as a world-leader in Beatles studies, with staff working closely alongside the City of Liverpool’s Beatles Legacy Group and even helping to shape heritage and tourism policy. Dr Tessler also co-edits the Journal of Beatles Studies, published by Liverpool University Press.
