We have seen the trucks, cable, and construction as well. You aren’t alone. What you are seeing is IdeaTek beginning its rollout of gigabit fiber internet in Emporia. The company, based in Buhler, announced in early August that they were starting construction and making a $14 million investment to bring fast, 100% fiber connectivity to Emporia.

Construction began between Union St. and Commercial St. from 12th Ave. to 7th Ave. IdeaTek says certain neighborhoods will be able to access service this fall. The company plans to expand to 10,000 locations across Emporia by the end of 2026. So it is likely you will see construction throughout the city for quite some time.

“At IdeaTek, we’re committed to bringing our high-speed fiber internet to every corner of Kansas, and we’re excited to make it a reality in Emporia,” said Daniel Friesen, IdeaTek’s co-founder and chief innovation officer. “True fiber internet is the gold standard in internet connectivity. We believe everyone deserves the best possible online experience, whether you’re casually browsing or online gaming. Our fiber network delivers unparalleled reliability. IdeaTek’s ultimate goal is to provide fiber to all Kansas residents because fiber is hands-down the best technology for high-speed broadband.”

Friesen also pointed out IdeaTek’s confidence in customer satisfaction and the quality of services they will provide throughout the city.

“We’re so confident you will prefer our service over others that we don’t require contracts,” he said. “We’ll provide you with the best service, so we’re not worried about you leaving.”
