An “exciting” new takeaway located off a busy Liverpool road will be opening soon. Azlans is opening on Ashfield Road, on the corner of Aigburth Road in Aigburth. Signage was put up on the shop last week, solving a mystery that has been ongoing for over 10 months.

The site was previously home to another takeaway called Otto’s, which sold pizza, burgers and pasta. It closed in the autumn of last year, with the shopfront boarded up with a mysterious message.

The previous shopfront was replaced with a grey backdrop in November 2024 which said: “Something amazing – coming soon. Stay tuned”.

The sign remained until this month, when it was replaced with a sign for Azlans, a takeaway which will sell burgers, chicken and shakes.

On the Azlans website, there is a live countdown until its opening date on September 11. A message underneath adds: “We are opening soon! Thanks for checking in! While we are getting ready, make sure to follow us on our socials to know when we launch!”

A post on its Instagram page said: “Something exciting is coming! Follow us for more updates.”

Otto’s previously held a rating of 4.3 on Deliveroo, with 140 reviews classing it as a ‘very good’ takeaway. Reviews included: “Always fresh, always tasty, always arrives on time and hot – no issues” and “First time ever trying this place, never tasted food like it. I had carbonara and Caesar salad and tried the pizza and bruschetta that my husband and friend had – absolutely gorgeous.

“Everything was fresh – none of the frozen rubbish, the portion sizes were large and very good value for money, the delivery driver was polite we ordered online so he was the only staff member we came into contact with. Highly recommended.”

The takeaway is neighbours with the incredibly popular Steve’s chippy, which has been in the same location since 1964.

The area has seen a number of takeaways and restaurants opening in recent years, including Thai Me Up Thai restaurant, Mon Petit Chou bakery and Sugar ‘n’ Slice takeaway. There are also two pizza takeaways, Naples and Pitfire, in the area.

The former Otto’s site is also well located close to south Liverpool institution The Bread Shop, known locally as The Bakery.

Originally opening in the late 1950s, The Bread Shop Bakery has stood on Aigburth Road for more than 65 years and has welcomed hundreds of loyal customers through its doors during this time. The business was first set up by Len Gordon and operated as a grocery store in its early years, before adapting to sell bakery items which are made fresh on site and much more.

The family business is now in its third generation of owners after Len’s grandson, Alan Gordon, took over The Bread Shop Bakery around 15 years ago.

The parade of shops also includes T Parlour tattoo shop and craft shop Clever Hands. Speaking to the ECHO about the area last month, Georgia Sharp, who owns T Palour, said: “This parade didn’t used to be as nice as it is now but in the past five years it has become desirable.

“We also have a lot of passing trade here because it’s a main road. Even when people stop at traffic lights they see us. There’s a high footfall, and it also helps that there is free parking nearby as well as the road being accessible by bus and train.

“This is the coolest part of Liverpool. It’s green, spacious, quiet and the houses are nice. I know it’s a cliché word but people are just nice. A lot of people want to put back into the area.”
