New bus connection between Avonmouth and Cribbs Causeway

Local residents in the Avonmouth area can now check out the new WESTlocal 40 bus timetables ahead of changes from 31 August.

The Service 40 runs between Avonmouth and Cribbs Causeway, via Lawrence Weston, Henbury, and Brentry. It will soon see route and timetable improvements designed to better serve local travel needs.

Next week, the service will be extended to provide a new direct link to shopping and leisure activities at Cribbs Causeway with six return trips per day. Previously this was limited to one school journey each day.

Residents living in Lawrence Weston, Henbury and Brentry will be able to use First Bus no 3 and 4 to travel to/from Cribbs Causeway.

Kate Royston from SevernNet for the 40, said:

“We welcome the opportunity to extend our community led Route 40 service to connect Avonmouth with Cribbs Causeway regularly through the day – Monday to Friday. As a community-led service we’re addressing the feedback we’ve received and look forward to the community’s patronage!”

Jason Freeman from bus operator The Big Lemon, said:

“These schemes are in their last phase of WESTLocal funding and the changes being made are in response to passenger feedback. We hope this encourages more people to use these community led bus services.”

This forms part of wider changes to WESTlocal buses, designed and run by communities, which are funded through the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority’s Bus Grant from UK government until March 2026.
