Leeds United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis.

Panathinaikos want £21.5million for Leeds-linked Ioannidis, who scored 11 goals in all competitions last season.

It was reported that Leeds are keeping tabs on Ioannidis earlier in the window, but negotiations appear to have entered an advanced stage.

Daniel Farke has already welcomed several attackers to Elland Road this summer, with Noah Okafor’s £17.3m arrival from AC Milan confirmed by Leeds last week.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also joined Leeds on a free transfer, after leaving Everton at the end of the season.

Ioannidis has attracted plenty of eyes following his move from Levadiakos in 2020, with his strongest form falling in the 2023/24 season.

The striker scored 23 goals and provided nine assists across all competitions, catching particular attention for his goals against Villarreal and Stade Rennais in the Europa League.

The 25-year-old could be compared to outgoing Leeds forward Patrick Bamford, possessing a tall frame but remarkably quick feet and a deadly finish when faced with the goal.

Ioannidis can often be seen collecting the ball outside the box before turning away from his man and driving forward.

The Greek international is also prone to running into space in the channels, collecting the ball out wide before beating his man on the inside to set up a teammate or finish himself.

The Daily Record reported on 26 August that Ioannidis is set to join Leeds, with Panathinaikos targeting Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers as a replacement.

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Leeds target Fotis Ioannidis

Leeds have a fight on their hands for the signing of Ioannidis, if the words of Fabrizio Romano are anything to go by.

The transfer guru reported on 26 August that it is, in fact, Sporting CP who are leading the race for the striker.

The Portuguese champions are close to agreeing a deal with Panathinaikos for the forward to replace AC Milan-bound Conrad Harder, in what is a transfer merry-go-round of sorts.

Ioannidis has agreed personal terms with Sporting CP, meaning Leeds will have to act quickly if they are to attract the player, after all.
