The number of jobs on offer are down with little change seen over the past 10 months.
The latest SEEK NZ employment report indicates there had been little change in job advertisement volumes since October, with last month’s number down 2 percent on the year earlier.
“July marked the slowest annual decline to be recorded since pre-Covid,” SEEK country manager Rob Clark said, adding the number of applications per job ad had not changed from June.
“Ad volumes are at a low but have stopped declining and we have seen very promising growth within certain sectors, industries and regions year-on-year.
“Worker demand in Southland continues to grow, thanks to a rise in housing and construction activity for the region, and this is being met with rising interest among candidates.”
Month-on-month ad volumes were up by 1 percent in five regions, including Canterbury, Hawkes Bay, Southland, Tasman and West Coast.
Regions with year-on-year volume growth included Canterbury (7 percent), Wellington (6 percent) and Otago (5 percent).
There was also growth in the number of jobs available in the information and communication technology sector, which had been rising steadily since November.
“More recently, we have seen an uptick in demand for construction workers and engineers, which is something we can expect to continue with big investment in the sector.”
Ad volumes within the construction and professional services sectors saw month-on-month volume growth of 1 percent, with steep demand for construction — up 13 percent since September.
