This November, internationally acclaimed violinist Nicola Benedetti makes a long-awaited return to Manchester, taking to The Bridgewater Hall stage as part of her first solo tour in over a decade.
Hailed by The Times as “the country’s favourite violinist,” the Grammy Award-winning performer and director of the Edinburgh International Festival delivers an evening of dazzling virtuosity, heartfelt emotion and music rooted in her Scottish heritage, with a programme spanning a selection of her favourite works.
From romantic classics to exhilarating party pieces and beyond, Benedetti’s all-embracing setlist gathers a hand-picked ensemble of close friends and collaborators, including Brazilian guitarist Plínio Fernandes and Italian accordionist Samuele Telari.
The repertoire features Paganini’s thrilling Caprices, Sarasate’s fiery Carmen Fantasie, Bloch’s lyrical Prayer and Debussy’s dreamlike Beau Soir. Audiences can also revel in an array of folk-infused favourites, from Jay Ungar’s evocative Ashokan Farewell to traditional Scottish melodies, all of which will be released on Benedetti’s forthcoming Decca Classics album.
Nicola commented,‘It has been over ten years since my last full tour of the UK, and having recently come off maternity leave, I am particularly excited to perform in so many beautiful venues, reconnect with audiences I haven’t seen in some time, and play for and chat to people in a fun and personal setting. I will be joined by fantastic musicians including guitarist Plinio Fernandes and accordionist Samuele Telari.’
